Giving the Game of Kubb
by Margaret McDowell

Twas the day before Christmas when it came to mind

No gifts were yet bought I was so far behind.

The weather was such just like that in June

I could not believe Christmas was coming so soon.

For where was the cold and where was the snow

That Santa would need to make his sled go?

No time to think Christmas while working each day

And evenings and weekends I just wanted to play.

In this distressing dilemma I found myself now

Had to get busy but please tell me how.

Should first make a list of all to give gifts

To leave anyone out would cause family rifts.

There is mother and father and dear sister Sue

She is married so add dear old brothern law too.

They have four nice teens all over the place

Billy and Jackie and Sally and Kate.

My big brother Joe married to Molly

With teens named Johnny, Jason and Polly.

And dozens of cousins makes more cause to moan

The list is so long need to take out a loan.

Well that much is done and hardly begun

So off to the mall for there starts the fun.

What each on my list would most like to find

Placed under the Tree must first come to mind.

I will go through the stores hoping to see it

That right thing to buy in true Christmas spirit.

Walked for three hours this approach is not working

Way back in my mind there is a fear lurking

That this joy of gift giving is bigger than life

And full of pitfalls and stresses and strife.

Though its better to give than receive as they say

I would rather receive than do this every day.

The shops all alight the people are busy

No one has pity on me in my misery.

The shoppers are shopping the carolers singing

The jingling I hear is the Army bells ringing.

On my march through the mall there is no time to pause

Wait, a crowd up ahead I will find out the cause.

It was Santa himself with all that white hair

In a jazzie red suit he wore with a flair.

I will get in this line, get into the hub

Then Santa asked what can I do for you, Bubb?

I ask not for myself but for all on my list

The right gift for each not one to be missed.

When what in my ears was heard in our chat

Got the latest thing here, now how cool is that.

It was a tall order but to the occasion he rose

As he pondered the question finger aside of his nose.

Donder and Blitzen I have it no problem Dude

There is just one thing to give the game, Kubb.

A game all can play from the young to the old

So reasonable too I bought all they sold.

I will carefully wrap them place one under each tree

A fun time for all a Kubb playing spree.

My list taken care of Christmas Eve I can sleep

To dream about giving its pleasures to reap.

Kubb a gift so unique way outa sight

Happy Chistmas to all and to all a good night.
